Amanda Jean “AJ”
Ever since I can remember I have lived my life driven by creativity. Born and raised in San Diego California, I moved here to Colorado in 2004, for what was supposed to be a short 6 month stay. Instead I quickly fell in love with this beautiful state and all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer. I am inspired by the 4 seasons, the beautiful sun rises and sunsets and the vast majority of awesome and unique people. I work a (not so) typical, 9-5 as the Decorative Concrete Supplies Manager for Bobcat of the Rockies and also work part time as a Painting instructor at Painting with a Twist. I typically divide what extra free time I have between volunteer work with CASA , spending time outdoors and of course my true love and passion, painting! Most of my art pieces fall into the “Abstract” or “Landscape” categories, but I love to dabble in all types of mixed media and refuse to stick to one type. You can often find my work spread out in various local Colorado Springs galleries, restaurants and of course, right here in the R.E.S.T. entry-way hallway. One of my all time, favorite quotes has always been “Art is the only way to run away without leaving home” –T.Tharp. Well, I have since discovered another way… Floating.!
Floating has opened up a whole new world of creative experience for me that I had never imagined possible. With my continuous Go, Go, Go lifestyle, the thought of laying (floating) still for a whole 90 minutes seemed nearly impossible. To my surprise though, it turned out to be quite the opposite. Each float I have experienced has proven to be its own individual “great escape” from my every day (repetitive) lifestyle. Complete relaxation, thought provoking, body ache healing and all in, zoned-out mindful creative pathways to my personal art expressions (did that make sense?). I have found floating to be immensely helpful when I’m having a creative block and amazing for developing new artistic ideas. I usually follow a float with some peaceful music and painting “me time” which has proven (to myself) to be absolutely awesome. I love floating!
